Skateboarding is a sport well loved by thousands all over the world. The history of skateboarding can be traced back to the 1950s when California surfers had the idea of taking their surf boards to the streets. The maker of the first board was unknown but it is a fact that a lot of people generated the idea together. Although a lot of people took credit for the existence of the sport but no one can really prove it thus making skateboarding as an unprompted creation.

Regardless, of its unclear history, skateboarding has awestruck so many thrill seekers especially the oung ones. It has evolved from a simple California innovation into a fun game of wheels. Some rules have been created for the sport and tournaments have become the mecca of both amateur and professional skateboarders.

Although you can see many young people skating with ease but the sport has become quite complicatedfor dreamers to become professionals. In order for someone to become an expert skateboarder one must of course possess great balancing skills. Any skater must learn how to develop exceptional confidence and balance in order pull great feats. Skateboarding tricks are dangerous and anyone who wishes to jump over bars or back flip must understand the vitality of safety.

Yes, skateboarding has become a phenomenal sport but it has to be learned since it as evolved into a risky venture.

Skateboarding is believed to have started out as a hobby which involved boards or wooden boxes with wheels from roller skates attached on the bottom. With such kind of boards it is easy to imagine that many people got hurt while using such boards. Just like any sport, it evolved along with the wooden boxes transformed into planks and were eventually developed with decks of pressed wood layers. During this time, when better versions of skateboards were produced skateboarding became a much appreciated sport typically done after surfing.

It was in 1963 when skateboarding reached the peak of it popularity. It was then that companies like Makaha and Hobie hosted skateboarding competitions. Before, the sport was mostly done freestyle or downhill. The very first people who became popular with the sport were Danny Deer, Torger Johnson, and Woody Woodward. However, what these guys did before was so different from today’s skateboarding scenario. Their “freestyle” skateboarding was more like ice skating with a board or ballet with wheels.

Skateboarding died out for sometime but boosted during the 70s when skateboarding competitions where held in California. It was then that the world saw how wonderful the sport can be especially when team Zephyr showcased their brilliant stunts. From then on, skateboarding became more than just a hobby but a serious sport.

Skateboarding is a famous sport in many countries especially among younger people or teenagers. With its popularity also come a lot of consequences. Hundred of injuries occur just because of the sport. There are parts of the body that are very exposed to injuries when skateboarding. Many of these accidents are preventable of skateboarders follow some fundamental safety rules which includes wearing some protective gear.

There are some components for skateboarding that must be put in mind prior to engaging in the risky sport. The helmet is a vital part of the sport. It helps protect the head in case of falls and bumps. The knee pads must also be worn to avoid permanent patellar damage. Elbow pads too are vital. The elbows are usually the first line of defense when falling from a skateboard. As a skateboarder falls he would instinctively lean thus offering more risks to the elbow.

Just like the elbow, the wrists are also very vulnerable parts of the body. This is why every skateboarder needs to have wrist guards too. Wrists injuries might not be too common with the sport but a strong injury to the part can make the skater a major handicap. Lastly, ankle guards are also necessary gears because the ankles are very susceptible to bruising or fracturing during a fall.
